King Arthur's Excalibur Sword: Will It Ever Be Found

Although there is no evidence that King Arthur and his beautiful Queen Guinevere ever existed, rumours still abound. Many parts of Great Britain claim King Arthur as their own. If you visit the counties of Somerset and Cornwall, the locals will tell you stories of the Court of King Arthur. Visit the country of Wales, and the Excalibur story really comes alive.

What Is the Excalibur Sword and the King Arthur Legend?

To understand the King Arthur legend and the Excalibur story, it is good to have a bit of background. Without getting too technical, we are going to tell you more about this legendary king and his sword.

At the time King Arthur lived, the United Kingdom was a divided land. It consisted of many different kingdoms. Each kingdom had its own separate ruler. The story changes, but according to legend, the powerful wizard Merling wanted to unite the British Isles. He took a disciple under his wing. This disciple was a young boy called Arthur.

It is not clear where Merlin first encountered Arthur, but he would eventually be known as King Arthur. According to the legend, his destiny was to unite the different kingdoms.

Once again, according to an ancient British legend, the only person who could unite all of the different tribes or small kingdoms of the British Isles was the person who possessed a magical sword called Excalibur. Most commonly, this part of the tale is called the Excalibur sword in the stone.

Where Is the Sword?

Excalibur would only reveal itself when the time was right. On top of that, it would also manifest itself to one person. That person according to Excalibur sword history was the person who would unite the tribes of the British Isles.

As the story goes, the Excalibur sword had been lost in battle a long time ago. Not even Merlin the Wizard knew where it was hidden. The details are sketchy, but from what we understand, the Excalibur sword revealed itself to Arthur one day when he was sitting by a lake. He was amazed and to his surprise, he found he could withdraw the sword from the stone the sword was partly buried in. From there, he went on to unite and take control of the other tribes and kingdoms of the British Isles

What Is Excalibur Sword?

Needless to say, no one has ever seen the sword. It is viewed as a symbol of unity. Perhaps it was indeed a magical sword which united the warring tribes of Britain.

The legendary lake has never been located. King Arthur seemed to have moved around a lot even though his castle was in Tintagel in Cornwall.

It is rumoured that he travelled widely throughout Cornwall and Somerset. This part of the UK later become known as the Kingdom of Wessex.

King Arthur also travelled in Wales. Could he have found Excalibur in a lake in Wales? One thing we do know is that King Arthur is associated with the Castle of Tintagel in Cornwall. Set on the cliffs overlooking the rocky shores of this part of England, Tintagel is certainly a fairy tale castle. The entire area of Tintagel has an air of mystery and intrigue about it. Visit and you will get a sense that something happened here once upon a time.

Once again, the fate of King Arthur and his beautiful queen Guinevere is shrouded in the mists of time. It was rumoured that both King Arthur and Queen Guinevere were buried in Glastonbury. Indeed, it is thought that ancient remains were found in the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey. However, they were moved and reburied somewhere else.

Quite when all of this happened is not clear., but there is a possibility that this could have happened. Glastonbury seems to be a link to much of Britain's past. If you have the opportunity to visit, you will discover it is the junction of many crossroads in history. Not only is it associated with the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur, but it is also associated with many other legends.
